Laser Tattoo Removal and SMP Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo & SMP removal

Laser tattoo removal is the process of applying light, energy/heat to a pigment.

We have both the Pico machine (Picosecond Laser Machine) and The Q-Switched ND:Yag which is a nanosecond laser. We tend to use the Pico about 80-90% of the time.

These machines break down the ink pigments in your tattoo into smaller particles. The body then eliminates the ink particles naturally through your immune system. These sessions are a minimum 6 weeks apart.

We use the most up-to-date laser tattoo removal technologies to make sure that our clients have the most effective and comfortable experiences that they possibly can.  This treatment can be used to remove body art ink, permanent makeup, and scalp micropigmentation.

A Picosure laser is a brand name for a laser which delivers very fast pulses of light – after the term Picoseconds. A picosecond is a unit of time – which is a trillionth of a second. The pulses of laser light are so quick, they are very effective at shattering tattoo pigment into smaller particles.  This then allows your body to do the rest.

When operated by an experienced technician like ourselves here at SMP Aesthetics – absolutely! Throughout the procedure, the laser tattoo removal operates in short, fraction of a second bursts targeted only at the tattoo. It doesn’t affect your surrounding skin.

Laser tattoo removal should not scar you. Instead of forcing ink out through the skin, it breaks it down so your immune system can attack and pull it out through your lymphatic system.

Here at SMP Aesthetics, we only use the latest and most advanced laser machines. These machines are much more gentle and pass much more freely through the skin without burning.

Several treatments may be needed before the tattoo fades enough to no longer be seen. The number of sessions is dependent on the tattoo complexity, ink type, colours used, tattoo depth, tattoo age and skin colour of the client. 5-10 laser tattoo removal sessions may be required before the tattoo fades entirely. Session times vary dependent upon the size and complexity of the tattoo and patient sensitivity.

It is possible to remove most colours with laser tattoo removal. Black and reds respond incredibly well to the removal process. More difficult colours to remove are white and blue and green is the most difficult. We will always aim to give you the best results possible.

If fading a tattoo is your main priority so you can get it covered  up, then you may just need 2-3 sessions over 2-3 months. This all depends what you want to cover it with.

Laser Treatments insist on an initial consultation with questions on your general health and any medication you take. If you are fit and healthy, answer questions honestly and follow recommended aftercare, you should be fine.

Sometimes yes, but not everything can be covered well. Some tattoos require a little help from the laser in preparation for cover-up, with a far superior result. A cover-up tattoo should always look good in its own right. Beware of promises to “cover it with black”. You may end up with a worse tattoo than the original. Even the best cover-ups are rarely 100% effective. If the original tattoo was very dark and strong it may seep back through in time.

We generally recommend that no more than 6×6 inches of a tattoo be removed in one sitting for the simple reason of healing. The tattoo removal process works by our laser fragmenting tattoo particles, causing them to combust and be flushed out by the lymphatic system over the following weeks. The larger the area of trauma, the harder the body has to work to heal and often this causes the removal process to slow down and become much less effective.
